SAS is the partner of EU2012 in Denmark

image
18 April 2012

In the first half of 2012, Denmark has the Presidency of the EU. The Danish government has a strong focus on holding the events as sustainable as possible and therefore the Foreign Ministry has selected SAS as a partner.
Being a partner is firmly in line with SAS 'ambitious climate and environmental work, and the goal of being one of  the leading sustainable airlines. Some years ago, SAS actively participated in COP-15, so it is natural to continue the engagement with the Danish EU Presidency. We offer the delegates to use the SAS Fast Track and Lounge, and for the passengers flying with SAS, Wideroe and Blue1 to EU2012, we are carbon offsetting their flights.

We are pleased to contribute to increased sustainability during the Presidency. Climate and environment are very important areas where SAS can and will make an effort. Transport is a prerequisite at events like this, and CO2 compensation is an important step towards a more sustainable air transport. At the same time we aim to perform as many green flights, takeoffs and landings as possible.

We have started a replacement of our fleet which will result in reduced emissions. In addition we are working hard on getting access to sustainable alternative fuels as a way to reduce CO2 emissions. We try to think sustainaility whenever it is possible. Currently we are replacing the wine bottles from glass to plastic. So far we have managed to find alternatives to seven out of eight wines. New chairs considerably lighter, are beeing installed onboard. In 2012, 1484 chairs are replaced, providing a reduction in weight of 360 kilograms per aircraft. Less weight on board reduces fuel consumption and thus lower emissions. The above are examples of a wide range of similar measures to reduce weight on board.
