Many companies in the industrial sector find themselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace. At the same time national and international regulations put more constraints on energy use, waste disposal and many other activities intrinsic to industry. With little room to maneuver, the optimization of processes is vital to the long term survival of businesses. Process optimization is the tool that allows a company to focus on and improve core activities once they are in place.
Because Denmark has had a head start in implementing many environmentally relevant technologies, there has been time to move towards process optimization. There is an accumulated know-how on process optimization in Danish companies that will be useful for countries and companies that have recently implemented environmental technologies and regulations and want to improve performance and reduce negative environmental impact.
Process optimization has particular relevance for large-scale production and power plants where even minute changes will have big consequences in the longer run, and where bottle necks can be disastrous for output.
