Other Renewable Energy Technologies

In the aim of becoming fossil independent by 2050, Denmark is continually seeking to increase its share of renewable energy, by developing and implementing a variety of technologies.

When hit by the oil crises in the 1970s, Denmark decided to turn away from its long dependence on imported oil and is now a net exporter of energy, with a total degree of self-sufficiency of 121 per cent. In this process, Denmark has raised its renewable share of final energy consumption to 19,7 per cent and its renewable share of total electricity consumption to 27,4 per cent.

Wind power, biomass and thermal solar energy make up most of Denmark's production of renewable energy, however many other technologies are implemented and even more are being developed, tested and deployed. Some of these technologies are expected to play a vital role in reaching the goal of fossil independence.
