Intelligent Buildings

Intelligent, energy-efficient buildings are expected to be an important part of future energy systems.

There are practically no limits to the number of functions that can be incorporated into intelligent buildings: lighting, heating/ventilation, climate control and energy management among others. Integrating energy-consuming with energy-producing components and incorporating intelligent buildings into the energy system – grid-connected energy-producing buildings - will save on energy costs and help reduce CO2 emissions by introducing more renewable energy sources.

Compared to buildings without intelligent building control systems the potential savings are impressive:

  • Up to 60% of electric energy through lighting control, presence detection and intelligent shading
  • Up to 25% of heating and 45% of cooling energy through functions such as individual room control, presence detection and sun shading

The challenge facing today’s developers is to optimize intelligent interaction between the many different electrical components and installations of a building, enabling the system to react to fluctuations in price, supply etc.
