Flue and waste gases from power plants and industry invariably contain some substances that may be damaging to the climate or environment, such as CO2, nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (Sox), dust and particles; and toxins such as dioxin and mercury.
Naturally, the research and development of technologies to remove these unwanted substances is an area of high priority; which is also reflected in the national and local legislation of many countries. A wide range of technologies: chemical processes, filters, scrubbers etc., are employed to ensure optimal cleaning according to the composition of the exhaust gas. Often, the ideal solution for a particular plant involves several different technologies.
Many Danish companies are engaged in developing and implementing solutions for removing pollutants from flue and waste gases.
