Combining chemical and biological approaches to energy will increase the efficiency of many existing technologies and is a necessary complement to the prevailing mechanical approaches. There are already several technologies that help increase utilization rates and efficiency of biofuel production as well as helping turn by-products into valuable resources.
Other examples are the use of algae for energy-production and enzyme technology to increase energy efficiency – such as in the production of detergents that allow washing at lower temperatures.
Danish companies have pioneered many chemical and biological technologies in energy and waste management and today these technologies are an integral part of the Danish energy system.
