Vattenfall’s vision is to be a leading European energy company and our main products are electricity and heat.

Today, Vattenfall generates electricity, produces heat and supplies energy to several million customers in the Nordic countries and northern Europe. Vattenfall is Europe’s fifth largest generator of electricity and the largest generator of heat.


Vattenfall manages many different technologies and has a diversity of energy sources. Our main sources are hydropower, coal, nuclear power, biomass, peat, wind power, waste and gas. We also use oil, geothermal and solar energy.

Vattenfall takes the lead in the combat against climate change. Our vision is that our power production will be carbon neutral in the Nordic countries by 2030 and for the whole company by 2050.

We have specific investment plans to reach this ambitious goal:

• Optimisation of existing technology. Increased efficiency reduces the consumption of resources and the emissions per unit of energy produced
• Increased use of renewable and low CO2-emitting energy sources, such as nuclear power
• Capture and permanent storage of carbon dioxide from fossil-fueled power plants
• Advicing our private and business customers, as well as the general public, how to achieve more efficient use of energy
