Siemens Energy received order for the largest wind farm in the world.
In the spring of 2008, Siemens Energy received an order from the company Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Ltd. for the supply of 140 3.6 MW wind turbines to what will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world when installed by the end of 2010. Besides supplying the wind turbines, Siemens Energy is also to connect this wind farm to the grid.
The energy efficient connection of the offshore wind farms to the electrical power grid is an important part of Siemens’ unique environmental portfolio. As part of the grid connection for the Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm, Siemens is constructing two substation platforms to be positioned at sea to concentrate the energy generated by the wind farms.
The Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm will also be the first UK offshore wind farm to be built outside the territorial waters and it will provide green electrical power for more than 415,000 households.
