Case study – Straw Barn
Seelen has supplied equipment to most major straw-fired power plants in operation today; including Sangüesa Power Plant in Spain, Elean Power Plant in the UK and several power plants in Denmark.
Many of these power plants only have straw-fired boilers, while others use co-firing combining coal and straw or straw and wood chips.
Moist boilers generate 20-35 MWe plus the energy that can be used for district heating.
The infeed of Hesston bales is approximately 50 bales per hour (25 tonnes per hour at 500 kg per bale).
The system in question is a fully automatic system which supplies the boiler with fuel without any human control.
