GRONTMIJ TO ASSIST THE DANISH MINISTRY OF CLIMATE AND ENERGY IN IDENTIFYING MUNICIPAL CLI

Solution type: in Development phase

A reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases is a necessity and Denmark has bound itself to meet its reduction commitments in accordance with the Kyoto Agreement. Here the municipalities constitute an important actor as the responsibility for ensuring the implementation of CO2-reducing projects will primarily be theirs.

Grontmij is assisting the Ministry of Climate and Energy in preparation of a catalogue of the most significant internal and external barriers obstructing the municipalities in their efforts to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. The catalogue is intended to create the potential for new political initiatives to lower the barriers and further to contribute to the creation of new incitements of municipal reductions of greenhouse-gas emissions.

The basis for the barrier catalogue will be constituted by interviews carried out in a series of municipalities in Denmark and it will involve key individuals at the political, managerial and project-managerial levels. For some time, Grontmij has been working towards an identification of barriers within the climate area. Thus, we have contributed to e.g. the creation of KlimaCamp08; participated in securing the municipality of Skive the title as Danish Energy Town; and we have been responsible for the preparation of climate strategies for a number of Danish businesses and municipalities.
