Energy savings are put into effect at Gumlink

Seeing that Gumlink on a daily basis spends quite a lot of money on energy, the management chose to be advised on energy consumption and conservation.

In connection to the energy consultancy service the production of Gumlink was reviewed for potential optimization of energy consumption and costs. An energy consultant from EnergiMidt carried out the service and the energy conservation suggestions ranged from replacement of the pneumatic compressor to optimization of the boiler and refrigerating plant.

When the engine of the old pneumatic compressor seized up, Gumlink had two options; to repair the old one or invest in a new compressor. Gumlink chose the last option and has only recently installed two brand new pneumatic compressors and a couple of the old ones are now on stand by.

The new pneumatic compressors, which can run the entire production of chewing gum, reduce the yearly consumption of energy by 500.000 kilowatt hours and the yearly consumption of gas by 98.000 cubic metres. In the future the same amount of chewing gum can be produced at less cost.


One of the additional suggestions for energy conservation concerns optimization of the boiler plant. Replacing the 35 years old boilers with new and modern ones would reduce the gas consumption of the company significantly and hence pay off in the shape of financial profit. New and modern boilers would furthermore reduce the risk of operation interruptions and the cost of maintenance
