Fiber from hveiti is produced on winter wheat.
Normally, winter wheat is not suitable for producing food, but through a biorefining process – using a new technique where 50 % of the fibers are peeled of the grain - it can be used for both food and feed.
On a yearly basis, hveiti will produce 45,000 tons fiber. The majority of the fiber used for producing food in Denmark is imported. Because of the new peeling method, fibers from hveiti will be able to replace some of the imported fiber, which will have a positive effect on both the climate and the national economy.
Fibers can be used for e.g. breakfast products and flour mixes.
