The biggest department store in Finland, Stockmann department store, is located in the heart of Finland’s capital, Helsinki. The store opened in 1930 and several changes have been made along the way. Danfoss took part in the ongoing enlargement project by building up a huge district cooling substation. District cooling production in Helsinki was started in 1998.

In February 2008, Danfoss LPM manufactured the biggest factory produced district cooling substation in Finland for the Stockmann department store. The cooling substation was needed for air ventilation and cooling down the cold storage space in the department store.

  • Outer dimensions of the Danfoss substation: Length 15m, width 6.5m and height 3.5m.
  • The cooling substation’s capacity is 7,745 kW, divided into three circuits.
  • The substation includes 7 large gasketed heat exchangers.
  • Piping material in the primary side (‘network’ side) is carbon steel and acid-proof steel on the secondary side (building side).
  • Pipe sizes on the network side are DN 300 and 150/250/300 on the building side.
