Horsens CHP Plant

Horsens CHP Plant

Solution type: Implemented

Horsens CHP Plant was commissioned in 1992 and is a waste-fired CHP plant that supplements operation by burning natural gas in the plant’s gas turbine. The plant has an incineration capacity of 2 x 5 tonnes of waste and 5,500 Nm3 of natural gas per hour. The plant has an installed capacity of 35 MW of electricity and a maximum district heating output of 45 MJ/s.

In 2006 Horsens CHP Plant generated a net quantity of 124 GWh of electricity and 866 TJ of district heating from 58.778 tonnes of waste and approximately 21 million Nm3 of natural gas. The district heating produced is reserved for the district heating stations of Horsens and Dagnæs-Bækkelund.

Technical Specifications

The fundamental technology behind waste-firing is well-proven and efficient. It utilises both the heat from incineration and the heat in the flue gas from incineration. Firing with waste rather than coal, natural gas and oil delivers a reduction in total CO2 emissions from power and heat generation.
