Vestforsyning - Heating becomes cooling

Vestforsyning - Heating becomes cooling

Solution type: in Development phase

A 150 year old technology can convert waste heat to environmentally friendly refrigeration
Vestforsyning will use water that is heated by Måbjerg plant incineration of waste, for a district cooling plant.

Popular said the heat is sucked out of the cooling water and steam will turn cold, so it again becomes water, which can be used again and again. "It is possible to cool the water down to 6.5 degrees. Typically, however, it will be at 8.5 degrees, and then it comes back with a temperature of approx. 15 degrees, "says Vestforsyning’s development manager.

Cold throughout the year
District Cooling is still competitive with the companies themselves establishing refrigeration system based on noisy electric compressors.
The need is there and it gets bigger and bigger.

The benefits of cooling
• good for the environment because it uses waste heat
• provides better economy in district heating systems, so the price is depressed
• cooling is silent, in contrast to an electrically powered compressor
• The price is competitive comparing to own refrigeration
• the facility is maintained, monitored and serviced by the utility- provider.
