Copenhagen Hydrogen Cluster

Solution type: in Development phase

Danish cleantech enterprises working with hydrogen are technologically very advanced.

In collaboration with central players, Copenhagen wishes to become an important hydrogen region and one of the first regions to roll out hydrogen-electric cars on commercial terms.

In the longer term, hydrogen can help solve specific urban challenges in Copenhagen; such as carbon emissions, air pollution, noise, and storage of excess energy. Hydrogen and fuel cell solutions are one of Denmark’s and the capital region’s core strengths within green growth technologies — a position which Copenhagen wishes to support.

Copenhagen is interesting as a roll-out region for several reasons. In addition to being ahead in terms of technology and production, the Capital Region of Denmark offers a number of advantages.

• Hydrogen and hydrogen-electric vehicles are tax exempt until 2016, thus the usual 180 per cent tax on cars is not charged.
• The Copenhagen Climate Plan aims for 85 per cent of the City's own vehicles to run on hydrogen or electricity by 2015. Hence, the City is a frontrunner when it comes to green mobility.

Partnerships
As the project is not yet fully developed, specific initiatives and potential partnerships have yet to be defined. Partnerships could involve innovation, infrastructure development, development of specific initiatives for a Copenhagen hydrogen cluster.
