Tanzania’s power company, TANESCO, wishes to expand the country’s energy production with wind energy, so the increasing energy needs can be met by sustainable energy.

Sweco in Denmark will advise TANESCO about how wind energy from large wind farms can be integrated into the national transmission grid.

Sustainable and reliable power supply
Like many other African countries, Tanzania has in recent years undergone a tremendous economic development, which places greater demands for a reliable power supply - partly due to increasing urbanization, leading to blackouts in large cities, but also because large mining holdings (mostly in geographically isolated areas) are taking their toll on the power supply.

The World Bank has decided to support Tanzania and the state-owned power company with funding from international consultancy to assess if the project is technically, financially and legally viable and realizable.

Danish know-how
TANESCO also wants to build greater internal capacity in relation to this and future developments in wind energy. Therefore, during project implementation Sweco will invite a small delegation of officials from Tanzania to visit Denmark. They will visit both utility companies in Denmark, the Danish Energy Agency, Energinet.dk, EMD International and others.
