New Business Deals Arriving
In October 2011 and therefore in the new fiscal year 2012, Siemens secured an order for a 100 Megawatt (MW) wind power project in Puerto Rico. Between July and September 2011, the company also received five orders for the supply of wind turbines with a combined capacity of over 570 megawatts (MW) from North America.
Supplying Eco-friendly Electricity
The combined order volume for all six projects is more than USD900 million. With a total capacity of over 670 MW the wind power plants will, following commissioning, supply eco-friendly electricity to more than 200,000 households.
A Growing Interest in Renewables
"The latest orders from North America show that our customers are continuing to invest in renewables," said Felix Ferlemann, CEO of the Wind Power Division of Siemens Energy. "Wind power is a business sector with a high growth rate worldwide and creates jobs in the areas of production, installation and service."
Entering the U.S.
Since entering the U.S. wind power market in 2005, Siemens has already created approximately 1800 jobs there. In addition to a rotor blade manufacturing facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, a nacelle production plant in Hutchinson, Kansas, and service centres in Goldendale, Washington and in Houston, Texas, the company has scheduled to open a wind service distribution centre this year in Woodward, Oklahoma, and a distribution and tooling centre in Wichita, Kansas. Before the end of this year, Siemens will also produce rotor blades in Tillsonburg in Canada.
New Wind Farms
Siemens will supply approximately 250 wind turbines each with a rating of 2.3 MW for four projects in the U.S. and a wind farm in Canada. A further 44 turbines with the same capacity are destined for a wind farm in Puerto Rico. In total, Siemens has already installed wind turbines with a combined capacity of more than 4800 MW in North America.
