All Technology Relations for Samso - a fossil free island
Show all technology relations
Samso has been the Renewable Energy Island of Denmark since 1998. The experiences from this successful project give an optimistic approach to the process that will lead to independency of fossil fuel.
The Masterplan is taking form and once it is completed it will provide a plan for those activities leading to the desired result. The development of the project will be a dynamic process, where local craftsmen and citizens are engaged in the project along with experts and consultants from outside of the island.
The main areas of the project include the introduction of flexible energy systems, fossil free transport as well as energy savings in the heating of houses and in electricity use. The energy comes from biomass, sun and wind. Something we need to look at is how specialists and citizens are involved in the project.
From our good experience with the earlier Renewable Energy Island project we are aware that some effort is needed to involve those living on Samso. Education, joined ownership and involvement cannot be taken for granted which gives these issues high importance in the project. Hopefully this brings green business development, new jobs and a greener planning for Samso in general.
Another aimed intention is to establish an international network of Energy Academies and partners. The last 10 year period has taught the people of Samso that they have done well and that people from distant places in the World wish to share the experience gained by carrying out a sustainable development at Samso.
