New World Record From Danish Wind Turbines

According to new figures from Energinet.dk, the Danish national transmission system operator for electricity, a world-record achievement of 57.4% of electricity was produced by wind turbines in December.

“This is a milestone for the Danish wind power industry. It is extremely important that we are able to demonstrate that a far greater proportion of electricity can come from wind than was previously believed” said Henrik Stiesdal, CTO of Siemens Wind Power in Brande.

2013 full of wind records
2013 was also a record year for wind power generation in Denmark when viewed across the entire year. A full 33.8% of the electricity consumed in Denmark came from wind turbines, which is the first time that any country has topped the one-third mark.

Furthermore, on a single day - 21 December 2013 – Danish wind turbines produced more electricity than the country’s total consumption, i.e. more than 100%.

“It’s a real plus for credibility when you’re marketing a message that green conversion is feasible. Not least when you have such a capable distributor as Energinet.dk in Denmark,” said Stiesdal.
