A partnership between leading stakeholders

Haldor Topsøe A/S has a leading position worldwide as supplier and advisor on the markets in oil refining, the chemical industry, and the energy sector. One of the most important business areas is ammonia (the initial stage for fertilizer), where Topsøe’s technology and catalysts are used for production in more than half of the world’s ammonia plants.

PKA, PensionDanmark, Pædagogernes Pensionskasse, and Maj Invest Equity A/S have established the investment fund ‘The Energy and Fertilizer Investment Fund’, which allows the pension funds to invest a total of up to DKK 1 billion in new projects together with Haldor Topsøe A/S in the coming years. The fund is managed by Maj Invest Equity A/S.

Possibilities for long-term perspectives

“Our partnership with the Danish pension funds will give the parties an opportunity to enter into common investments in new, long-term businesses, which will indirectly influence, among other things, the ability of developing countries to cover an increasing need, for example, for food products in future,” state Dr. Haldor Topsøe and Bjerne S. Clausen, CEO Haldor Topsøe A/S.

“The partnership will allow investments with a larger equity and influence in attractive projects. We are pleased to cooperate with the three pension funds on these opportunities,” say Bjerne S. Clausen and Dr. Haldor Topsøe.

Looking towards developing countries

The investments will take place primarily in developing countries, where a rapidly increasing need for fertilizer is expected in future. The access by agriculture to fertilizer is essential for the world to feed its population, and the demand for fertilizer is expected to grow considerably as a result of changes in the climate, especially flooding and drought, population growth, and increased purchasing power.
