Green EU Initiative Opens up for Danish Growth

Many years of experience and knowledge in energy efficiency can benefit Danish companies. New EU measures will in fact create tomorrow´s huge market, assesses climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard.

Danish companies are facing a new billion market. EU moves with two extensive measures to make public buildings in the EU more energy efficient. And thus there is an obvious potential for Danish companies to benefit from many years of Danish experience and knowledge. The Danish climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard hopes that when Denmark from New Year takes over the presidency of the EU, we can also embark on a future market for low-energy solutions in which Danish companies have a strong knowledge.

"There is a wealth of opportunities for Danish companies, for we must not mistake the strength we have here as a country. We know how to work with windows, insulation, cooling systems and complete systems. We are adept at efficient power plants and we have a long tradition of district heating", says Connie Hedegaard to Danish newspaper Børsen.

When asked about what Denmark´s strengths are Connie Hedegaard answers: "We see district heating as an ordinary detail in our daily lives, but Denmark is one of the most experienced countries in this area. This is a key strength for Denmark. Moreover, we have since the oil crisis of the 70s had a tradition of reducing energy consumption in businesses and households, which has created great knowledge in Danish industry".
