Governmental Support of Hydrogen Cars Can Create 6000 Danish Jobs

A range of the world’s biggest car producers estimate that along with eligible conditions, a government support of DKK 30 millions will drive the development of a market for hydrogen vehicles in the right direction and create up to 6000 Danish jobs.

Five international car producers support the development of hydrogen cars in Denmark
As part of a new Danish energy plan which is negotiated between the Danish government and the opposition parties in these very minutes, five international car producers support the establishment of advantageous market conditions that will facilitate the promotion of hydrogen vehicles in Denmark. The statement was made by car producers Daimler, Toyota, Hyundai, Opel/GM and Nissan in an open letter to Danish ministers and members of parliament.

Great potential in hydrogen
The five international car producers highlights hydrogen because hydrogen cars will give electrical vehicles (EVs) the same range and quick refueling as normal cars making it possible to spread the concept to the entire Danish car marked.
A mere investment of DKK 30 millions in infrastructure as well as the same supporting conditions as for biogas stimulate the potential in hydrogen vehicles. This contains a possibility of 6000 Danish jobs and a per year export of DKK 10 billions, the car producers estimate.

For some time, Denmark has been considered a possible marked for the introduction of hydrogen vehicles. Also, since 2001 Danish companies have, along with public programs, already invested DKK 2 billions in the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.

Export opportunities worth DKK 10 billions
In hydrogen production and refueling stations alone, the export potential for Danish companies have been predicted to account for DKK 10 billions per year from 2020 to 2050 creating the foundation for up to 6000 Danish job. More than 30 percent of the components in a hydrogen refueling station are produced in Denmark and the production involves more than 30 Danish companies. Production of one hydrogen refueling station creates employment of 4,5 person for a year.

15 refueling stations at a price of DKK 30 millions
The five car producers say that a public infrastructural support of just DKK 30 millions will be equivalent of 15 refueling stations before 2015 meaning that half of the Danish population will have less than 15 kilometers to the nearest refueling station. This is sufficient for a marked introduction of hydrogen vehicles in Denmark.

The letter was signed by Daimler, Toyota, Hyundai, Opel/GM and Nissan, instigated by National Network for Advancing Hydrogen Transportation, Danish Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells and H2 Logic.
