Global Wind Organisation Chooses Denmark as Home Base
4 December 2013
Safety is the number one priority for the companies in the global wind industry and to contribute to a better and safer work environment, GWO was set up by 13 leading wind power companies in 2009. And now the organisation chooses Denmark and the Danish Wind Industry Organiation as it new home base.
"Choosing Denmark and the DWIA means that we get to work with a respected and professional organisation with a broad and international network. Almost all companies involved are in contact with DWIA or based in Denmark. Further, we need to move fast as the demand for our idea and services is high and we expect that DWIA is the right setting to set out from", says Claus Rose, Chairman of GWO.
Industry standards for safety training
Since the formation in 2009, GWO has been working on industry standards for safety training as common methods, standards and procedures will contribute to a better and higher safety at work for employees in the wind industry.
"GWO will save the companies in the wind industry for a lot of undue training, and at the same time form the basis for a better and safer training. The training standards will be applicable in the majority of the wind industry and across countries. It corresponds to creating an international driver’s license for training standards", says Claus Rose.
The new GWO secretariat will be situated in office of the Danish Wind Industry Association in Copenhagen. From here the work with developing and improving the training standards will take place.
It is very encouraging that GWO has chosen the Danish Wind Industry Association and Denmark as its base to grow from and we look forward to working closer together with GWO to ensure that the training standards in the wind industry are optimised in order for the safety to become even better. With more harmonious standards and routines the companies’ access to qualified personnel will also be advanced, says Jakob Lau Holst, COO, the Danish Wind Industry Association.
The founding 13 companies of GWO are Acciona, AES, DONG Energy, E.ON, Fred Olsen, Gamesa, GE, Repower, Siemens Wind Power, Statoil, Suzlon, Vattenfall og Vestas.
