EU Signs Important Water Agreement with China
Denmark is the main actor in the agreement that seeks to improve China’s water sector. Within the next 10 years, China will use EUR 470 billions in the water sector. Danish and European knowledge on water planning, groundwater protection and wastewater treatment will be the backbone of the EU’s cooperation with China.
Agreement signed at the 6th World Water Forum
The agreement was signed today at the 6th World Water Forum in Marseilles, France, by China’s Minister for Water Resources Chen Lei and Denmark’s Minister for Environment Ida Auken. More than 15.000 people from all over the world are gathered to discuss the international agenda on water.
Denmark and the EU have the technology China needs
Ida Auken says the agreement is a great step for the cooperation on water between the EU and China. Denmark and the EU have the technology China needs, which will bring on many new opportunities for development of new technologies.
The cooperation with China will open the door for Danish companies to the Chinese marked. Water technologies are some of Denmark’s core competences, and about 35.000 people have jobs in the Danish water sector, with an annual turnover of about DKK 30 billions.
