Is Chicago Lakeside the world's most sustainable solution?

Ramboll is represented by the Chicago Lakeside project when former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger visits Copenhagen on 11 October to award the honorary Sustainia Award.

The Sustainia Award Ceremony on 11 October celebrates 100 global solutions gathered from 56 countries spread over six continents. The nominees each represent innovative and scalable solutions instrumental in creating sustainable societies. This week the field of solutions running for the award was narrowed down from 100 to 10. The finalists were found following careful scrutiny of the 100 nominees and represent outstanding solutions from clothing recycling; clean cooking stoves to sustainable supermarkets and UV water filtering.

Ramboll takes Chicago Lakeside to the final
Each finalist represents one of the 10 nomination categories; health, resources, energy, education, IT, fashion, food, cities, transportation and buildings. Ramboll made it through to the final stage with the Chicago Lakeside project in the 'cities' category. In this project Ramboll has developed concepts for district heating and cooling, waste and water based on our Copenhagen and Scandinavian experience and current economic drivers.

Chicago Lakeside is a transformative model for US city planning and could overhaul the traditional thinking of how people live and work in Chicago and across the US. The solutions utilised in Chicago Lakeside have strong site-specific characteristics, but the DNA of the solutions is fully transferable to other cities. Read more here.
