3GF Awarded for its Transformative Work at COP17

Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) is acknowledged for its innovative and solution-oriented work at COP17 in Durban.

Today, the Global Green Growth Forum – 3GF was acknowledged for its innovative and solution-oriented work on green growth, as it was announced winner of the "Transformative step of the Day" during COP17 in Durban.

The committee behind ‘Transformative step of the day’ nominated 3GF for its innovative approach to setting up new public-private partnerships with focus on transformative solutions that can deliver a zero carbon economy and for its strong focus on companies as solutions providers as well as the growth potential of the transition to a low-carbon economy. The approach of 3GF to involve leading countries as solution providers and to link the need for a strong binding global framework with leadership in smaller groups was also highlighted.

The Minister of Climate, Energy and Buildings, Mr. Martin Lidegaard, received the diploma earlier today on behalf of the Danish government:
”I am very proud that our efforts to transform the climate and environmental challenges into growth and job creation through public-private partnerships are acknowledged through the Transformative Step of the Day. It tells me that we – through 3GF – are filling out a gap in the global architecture by facilitating a much needed action-oriented dialogue among the businesses, investors and political leaders on green growth solutions.”

The Governments of Denmark, Korea and Mexico are jointly backing 3GF in partnership with leading global corporations and key international institutions. 3GF is initiated by the Danish Government to provide a platform for creative, solution-oriented, thinking and action on how to provide the needed scale and pace for the global transition to a green economy, and how to effectively establish public-private green growth alliances through aligning business and investment strategies with government policies.

The first 3GF took place in Copenhagen on 11-12 October 2011 and was attended by the UN Secretary-General, OECD Secretary-General, Prime Ministers of Denmark, Ethiopia and Kenya, 50 global corporate leaders, Ministers and deputy ministers, UN leaders and world leading civil society organizations and experts. The next Forum will take place in Copenhagen on 9-10 October 2012.
