Support for South African care centre for orphans
The partnership between Develco Products and the South African company National Power, under the Danish Business-to-Business programme began in 2009. The objective of the cooperation is establishing a system to monitor power consumption and to control electrical usage, as a means to avoid blackouts and reduce energy consumption.
The cooperation between the two companies bears not only the transfer of skills and knowledge sharing in the energy efficiency sector, but has been developmental in uplifting the community through their CSR initiatives over the years.
In addition to the on-going focus on capacity building and skills training for the companies’ employees, the two partners arrange a yearly event supporting the local community. For this year’s CSR event, the partners provided support in the form of a generator and medical supplies to the Doulos Care Centre. The Doulos Care Centre is a non-profit organisation established for the benefit of caring for children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Officially opened in July 2003 by Emma Van Der Merwe; it cares for 40 children ranging from birth to 18 years.

The need for a backup generator is of high importance as the centre also premises a 24 hour care clinic for terminally ill children. The centre is managed by 23 staff members, and the professional staff ensures that they are able to provide the best care possible for the children. Amongst its other initiatives, the centre manages a Drop- In Centre programme, where they provide nutritious meals, and psychosocial support on a daily basis to 300 orphaned and vulnerable children from nearby squatter camps.
