Innovation parks lead the way for new technology
While not a new invention, science and technology parks are gaining new ground these days. Several parks have been established in the last few years and more are underway. The purposes differ slightly, however, many of them focus on curiosity, innovation and development of green solutions.
An example of one such park is the Danfoss Universe, which is a hands-on science theme park where families can play their way to more knowledge about science. One aim of the park is to make more young people interested in studying natural sciences.
New research park to be established in Denmark
One of the new parks underway is in Roskilde, not too far from Copenhagen. As a part of the Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster, the park is a project between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the University of Roskilde, the municipality of Roskilde, and the region of Sealand. The aim is to create synergies between companies and the research environment and not least to attract companies working with cleantech and environmentally friendly forms of energy. The park is expected to create 4000-5000 jobs over the next years.
Danish technologies at work in innovation parks abroad
A newly announced park is the Skolkovo Innovation Center, a high tech business area, which is to be built right outside Moscow, Russia. The establishment of the park was announced on 12 November 2009 by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev. The park will be structured around five clusters, one of which will be an energy efficiency cluster. The goal of the cluster is to gather international intellectual capital and help stimulate the development of new projects and technologies.
Danish company working with Skolkovo
RuDanEnergo, a facilitator and developer of new initiatives between Russian and Danish stakeholders within energy efficiency, hosted the first visit of the Skolkovo Foundation to Denmark in December 2011. The cooperation should more easily pave the way for more Danish companies to join the Skolkovo Innovation Center, however, the Danish company Rambøll is already involved as client consultant to the Foundation.
